Famous REO Speedwagon Party Coach

What is an REO Speedwagon?  No doubt your first thought would be – A great Rock and Roll band!!  You would, of course, be right!  But in the Denver Metro area it is so much more!  It’s an opportunity to start the party before you get there!  Sound interesting?  Let me tell you some facts about the vehicle you see pictured here.

First let me be clear we did not steal the name from the Rock group.  In fact a
about 30 years ago, shortly after we restored the REO a local concert promoter
hired us to escort the group around to promote a concert.  Many people ask
us how we were able to get away with using the groups name on the side of
our vehicle.  The group was quick to point out THEY stole the name from us,
NOT the other way around.

Few people these days are aware that REO are actually a man’s initials.  Ransom Eli Olds (as in Oldsmobile Automobiles).  REO was actually an American automobile and truck manufacturer for over 60 years.

In 1906 Ransom Olds sold his Auto Company to General Motors, with the condition he would never compete with his name in the Auto industry.  He then became President of  the Oldsmobile Division of GM.  He soon realized he could not be apart of some of the changes which were taking place in the automobile so he resigned and started an Auto and Truck Company.  When ask what he planned to call the new company he replied,  I never agreed to anything about my initials.  Within 10 years REO earned the reputation as the best built truck in America, and retained that status for over 35 years.  The “Speedwagon” addition was made to destinguish the largest, fastest engine in the fleet!

While REO’s had many uses over the years, they are most remembered for their use as Fire engines and Armored Cars or as they were called “Money Trucks”

The vehicle featured here is an authentic 1946 REO Speedwagon Armored Car.   It was manufactured in Lansing, Michigan, and was in service as a Brinks Armored Car from 1946 to 1962, when it was retired and stored in the Brinks building for 20 years.  During its years of service it carried literally billions of dollars within its walls and survived to robbery attempts (both of which were unsuccessful)!!

Today you have the unique opportunity to ride in this “Historic Treasure”!!  The
Moneys gone, and we have replaced the bullet proof steel with a Luxurious Cocktail Lounge with all the amenities of a high priced limousine.

RIDE IN HISTORY – WITH ALL THE AMMENITIES OF TODAYS HI-TECK COMFORT!!!
